PARENTING PARTNERS What is Parenting Partners™? Family Leadership's Parenting Partners is an eight-week set of workshops for increasing parenting skills and involving parents in their children's academic success. The process appeals to parents because it builds practical parenting skills and engages parents in positive leadership. Academic improvement Parents master practical academic improvement skills to support the classroom teacher. Parents learn family literacy activities, how to create a strong home learning environment, and positive ways to communicate with teachers and staff. Strength-based training Our parents feel valuable and confident because the interactive workshops build on their strengths. Each week parents gain more manageable, effective parenting skills --including positive discipline. The workshop format is experience-oriented and discussion driven so that parents feel respected and engaged. Multi-lingual The curriculum is in Spanish and Hmong, in addition to English. Bringing parents the 40 Assets™ Parenting Partners is a university-affiliated program bringing parents the best practices in youth development. Our research partner, the Search Institute, has identified 40 Developmental Assets through their research on more than two million youth – these are the real life practices of youth who succeed in school and resist negative influences such as drugs. Parenting Partners gives parents the skills to build these 40 Assets in their children. Parents are empowered by this research and the practical power of the assets to promote their children’s success. The Search Institute has selected Parenting Partners as its training resource across North America for parent engagement with the 40 Assets. Extensive experience More than 20,000 parents from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds have graduated from Parenting Partners. More than 700 Parenting Partners trainers are leading the workshops in more than 30 states and provinces. These trainers include teachers, principals, school psychologists, home/school liaisons, parents, business leaders, and agency staff. Practical Tools Parents are equipped with practical tools to make changes in their family:
